In scenarios where either middleman is overly inefficient or brand based contracts suddenly start failing left and right.
Brand based contracts
Brand-based finance means traditional legacy finance like banks, institutions, monetary systems, custodial services.
Such systems mainly run by states or some private entities. Which takes decisions behind closed doors and there is no transparency in the decision execution.
In such systems, there are high chances that officials can manipulate their decisions for their own profit purposes.
Math based contracts
Math based contracts are new reform of traditional finance which is called as decentralized finance. They are backed by mathematical facts.
Instead of rules and laws, there are smart contracts for the execution of decisions. No one can single-handed own math-based systems. Decisions can often be made by public debate.
Chances of manipulating decisions are very less in such an open environment.
Brand based contracts to Math based contracts
Math based contracts are going to become very very attractive because there are going to be the actual guarantee of ownership. You have an actual guarantee of financial products paying out your interest.
You have an actual guarantee of a contractual obligation with counterparty being followed through on.
Not because you trust the counterparty but because maths and physics will enforce contracts according to the way that it was written.
The reality is if you actually look at the contracts you have, they are based on a game-theoretic assumption about good behavior or the slovenly or the proper behavior of the brand.
And that might be an ok assumption when things are going very well and brands need to fight for market share and they are willing to make fifty promises and things like that.
Math-based contracts on the other hand are not based on a promise for somebody. They are based on mathematical facts that guarantee you a certain outcome.
So, this is why the tagline for many bitcoin people is "Vires in Numeris" trust in mathematics or trust the numbers.
